The Shook Twins, Johanna Lefever

"The Shook Twins have an acoustic folk -rock, pop sound. They take turns playing lead guitar and singing lead vocals. When they harmonize, sometimes it's hard to tell who's singing what because their vocals are nearly identical, making them blend beautifully. In a live preformance, Laurie shocks the audience with her brilliant vocal beat-box and eerie looping.
--Jenna Bowers Sandpoint Reader
We are the Shook Twins, Katelyn and Laurie from little ol' Sandpoint, Idaho. We have been at this music thing for almost our whole lives, it has become ingrained in us and it is our passion in life.
We’ve been in choir since we were wee little ones and took up the guitar just before we graduated high school in 2002. Once the chords started sounding like music, the creation of our songs began. We have 21 original songs and 3 cds. We have recorded with J&S music in Boise, Idaho in summer of 2003, Pacific Link Music in Portland, Oregon in the winter of 2003, we finished our second album with our friend Brody Bergholz at indigital studios in Santa Cruz ,CA during the summer of 2005. And we also made our third album there there in 2007.
We also got the opportunity to record a demo in Nashville last March 2006. We were brought there to record three of our own songs with some of the best studio musicians out there with the help of manager, Kyle Jones and producer, Micheal Spriggs. It was an amazing experience!
Our second album is a self produced live album, a compilation of our favorite performances of our newest songs ,mostly from the One World Cafe in Moscow ID. It's called Shook Twins Live at the One World. Be sure to check that one out.
Some of our main musical influences these days are Sarah McLachlan Ani Difranco, Sufjan Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Joseph Aurthur, Shawn Colvin, Cold Play, Dave Matthews Band, The Beatles, Ray Lamontagne, Bjork , all kinds of electronic music and many more, there's just too many good folks out there to mention. We just appreciate the souls out there creating these amazing songs for us to listen to, love and learn from. Cheers to you incredible artists!
We graduated from the University Of Idaho in December 2006! ! We majored in film/digital media and with a minor in Spanish (for laurie). If not music as a career, we would love to make music videos or create concert films. Also our other aspiration is to be the hosts of the "Travel Channel".
We grew up with the most amazing parents, Dan and Patty Shook, who allow us to believe in this dream. They never miss a performance (when it's local) and always show their support. We were the only kids in the family until we were 12 years old, and we decided to "emotionally" adopt Zabrielle Whittom. She became our true sister immediately. She now has a family of her own with her husband Bryan Dillon and her babies Jobey and Emele.
Our hopes in life are to be professionals at this whole music world and stay strong and true as the process unfolds.

"Johanna Lefever's music is dreamy and sweet and conjures up innocent memories of sailing on the sunny open seas or perhaps one's first kiss. Her music has a simple and child like quality with a raw sound, with well developed vocals that give the music it's charm. Following the styles of folk music such as Nick Drake, Cat Stevens, or Simon and Garfunkel, the appeal lies in it's refreshing simplicity. The experience is as if the everyday troubles and thoughts that run through your mind get cleaned out by the music itself, leaving you just with the feeling of renewal. Lefever hails from Santa Cruz, California and has been building a loyal fan base in the community since 2005." Amy Obenski 2008 -There are only so many ways that you can bring pleasure to yourself and others, in equal measure, being selfish and selfless, simultaneously. this is music for me. i play for myself, and for the people i love. -Johanna
