Amy Obenski We've all heard a female singer-songwriter who wears her emotions on her sleeve and drips with sincerity. But Amy Obenski is not that. With "gripping" lyrics and "haunting" vocals, Obenski's songs are conveyed to the audience on a more intimate level (Good Times Santa Cruz, High Bias). Like a whisper that shakes your soul awake, her voice is gentle yet oddly powerful, rising above and piercing through the noise and chaos of today's world. Obenski's song, "Carousel", was recently placed on the hit TV show, Grey's Anatomy. Since then the song moved to number 23 on the iTunes Folk Chart, rewarding this independent singer-songwriter after five years of hard work. Her first success landed in her lap in 2005 when an MTV executive approached her after hearing her songs on someone's iPod. Her debut album, "What We Tell", which was finished only two years after writing her first song, was then licensed by MTV for use in their show, "MADE". Amy Obenski has now released two albums that have received radio play throughout the West Coast, Alaska, and Massachusetts. She's played notable venues such as Biscuits and Blues in San Francisco, and has opened for the John Butler Trio at the Temple Bar in Los Angeles. Growing up in San Diego, California, Obenski was encouraged musically from the beginning. She started singing in choir at age five, and began piano lessons shortly after. Training in a variety of classical and jazz styles, Obenski remained loyal to music all the way through college even while majoring in Environmental Studies at UC Santa Cruz. One year after college graduation and tired of nine to five office work, she picked up a guitar and wrote her first song. Finally, there was no denying it. She was a songwriter. Brianna Lane This chick puts the word "singer" in singer/songwriter. Brianna grew up in Minnesota so you can blame her sweetness on her roots but this girl has been on the road non-stop for three years so you can hear her experiences in every note she sings. She has a voice and a presence beyond her years. She strums an acoustic guitar with the same sweetness and power in which she sings. Brianna is currently touring nationally with Liz Stahler on the "Boston to Austin Tour" supporting health and wellness and raising money for various charities. • Lane's songs are beautiful and cathartic, almost telling us that it's OK to feel down, but not to let it get us down at the same time…. Her acoustic guitar gently weeps through almost a dozen indie-rock tunes, wandering through an introspective depression while maintaining a brave face all the same. –Mish Mash • "… innovative, thought-provoking songs…" –Eddie Russell, Back to the Dirt, Columbus TX • Her smartly written lyrics paint a portrait of a woman on the road searching for honesty and love. Her disarming voice lends those lyrics a feeling of innocent sincerity and heart. Fans of Dar Williams, early Suzanne Vega, the Indigo Girls and good songwriting in general will love "Radiator". –Asheville disclaimer • "... moving rhythm, lingering melodies & some pleasant harmonic surprises. Lovely vocals & poetic narrative. It catches me the same way as some of my favorites from Suzanne Vega, Patty Larkin or Jonatha Brooke." –WEFT - 90.1 FM, Champaign, IL, US Kevin Elliott, From the Joshua Tree Inn • "'Radiator' showcases Lane's well crafted songs of travels, relationships, and life's delicacies. The lyrics are strong and detailed. Skillfully sung over her dynamic guitar work." –Volume One, Eau Claire, WI • "All these tunes evoke a peaceful fatalism that beats you like innocent rain. You can't refuse them so you stay glued right there, all soaked up." –The Indie, Asheville, NC • "'Radiator' is a solid album by an artist worth checking out" –Lavender, Minneapolis, MN Johanna Lefever "Johanna Lefever's music is dreamy and sweet and conjures up innocent memories of sailing on the sunny open seas or perhaps one's first kiss. Her music has a simple and child like quality with a raw sound, with well developed vocals that give the music it's charm. Following the styles of folk music such as Nick Drake, Cat Stevens, or Simon and Garfunkel, the appeal lies in it's refreshing simplicity. The experience is as if the everyday troubles and thoughts that run through your mind get cleaned out by the music itself, leaving you just with the feeling of renewal. Lefever hails from Santa Cruz, California and has been building a loyal fan base in the community since 2005." Amy Obenski 2008 -There are only so many ways that you can bring pleasure to yourself and others, in equal measure, being selfish and selfless, simultaneously. this is music for me. i play for myself, and for the people i love. -Johanna |
